SEMINAR 10. MOBILE APPLICATIONS

The field of Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) is an approach to language learning that is based upon the use of mobile devices (such as MP3/4 players, PDAs, smartphones and tablets). MALL combines mobile learning with computer assisted language learning. MALL offers a way to access learning materials and to interact with teachers and peers, transcending place and time boundaries in a way that has never been possible until now. As such, language learning has been made more approachable than ever. It can be incorporated into all modalities of education: secondary, tertiary, informal, online, blended, etc. However, MALL involves much more than flexible resource access and an easy way to shorten distances between learners.

Aurasma helps people use augmented reality (AR) to turn everyday objects, images, and places into new, interactive opportunities to engage with their fans and customers through striking graphics, animation, video, audio, and 3D content.
Augmented reality is an interesting feature in newspapers that takes readers beyond the printed page. It enables people to see a video, animation, or other unexpected content that is apparently located on a page of their newspaper. I am pround of my university because BSU prints newspapers using AR. It's cool!

QR code

A QR Code is a two-dimensional barcode that is readable by smartphones. To read QR Codes with your smartphone, you need an appropriate software installed on your phone.
For instance teachers can put QR codes around the classrom for students to access information about their hometasks, schedule and other stuff.
